The Idea

So what do you get when you mix a rock band, a lot of naiveté, and way too much alcohol? You get an idea like The Boston Rising. Conceived after band practice one night, we (The Model Sons) wanted to help promote all the truly amazing things currently happening in the Boston rock scene. Many ideas were thrown around that night, most of them bad. Finally we agreed on starting a new event that would promote Boston rock. If you know us, then you should know that getting us all to agree on something is a miracle in itself, and so we pushed forward.

Having never done anything like this before, we were completely clueless. We knew that we needed a venue, so we contacted The Middle East. It turns out that renting out the downstairs costs nearly $2000! That's cool, we believe in Boston rock (see naiveté above), so we agreed and got ourselves a big empty room on Saturday, April 24th. At this point we started to get a little nervous. Now we had to fill that big empty room.

Luckily, we aren't just musicians, but we're also fans of a lot of bands in the area. It was easy for us to come up with a list of rockers that would help make the event successful. We settled on Runner and the Thermodynamics, The Information, The Good North, and Harris. Being huge fans of The Blackout Bar, we also enlisted Mark Vieira to drop by and DJ for the night.

Now, armed with an incredible lineup and a legendary venue, we were lucky enough to get some people to sponsor the event. Anngelle Wood and Chris Rucker from FNX loved our idea and helped get their station to sponsor The Boston Rising. Soon after, T-Max, from Boston's venerable rock 'zine The Noise, stepped up as a co-sponsor. We can't be happier to work with them since FNX is re-vitalizing local radio, and T-Max is probably one of the longest supporters of Boston rock in the area!

So there you have it. We have been working like crazy to promote The Boston Rising. Check out our Promo page to see where you can read about it, when you can listen to the bands on the radio, and where you can pick up the first issues of our free Boston Rising 'zine! (These come with sampler CDs by the way.) If this first attempt is successful we plan on throwing more of these, so tell your friends!

April 24th, 2004. The Boston Rising. See you there.
