Model Sons Bio

BOSTON, April 2002.  Three misfit video game makers form a band.  Founding members Ian Vogel and Bryn Bennett meet at Boston's Irrational Games while working on a Playstation 2 title.  Soon they begin collaborating on a sound that mixes The Misfits, The Hot Snakes, and Fugazi.  Bassist and artist extraordinaire, Scott Sinclair, joins the company and shares in their vision.  Drummer Anthony Mellace auditions, breaks 5 sticks in 5 songs, and is immediately hired.

BOSTON, October 2002.  The Model Sons release their first recording.  Entitled "The Lies and the Money" this disc contains 7 punk and indie stained dirty rock anthems.  The CD is released on Bassist Scott Sinclair's SincAudio label that is also home to NYC's Pilot to Gunner and Boston's The Also-Rans.  They press over 1,500 two-song promotional CDs to raise their profile in Boston and satellite cities in New England.

BOSTON, February 2003.  The promotion pays off.  The Model Sons' website averages over 9,000 hits/month.  They aggressively book shows, playing in and around Boston.  The end of the month finds the band playing at Boston's premier rock club, The Middle East.  Articles start springing up about the chaos at Model Sons shows.  The Boston Globe gives them a raving review.  The Weekly Dig features a 2-page spread about them.  The EP begins getting played on major Boston rock stations such as WFNX, WBCN and WAAF.  Fans start singing along with the songs and pouring beer on them.  Life is good, but also wet and smelly.

BOSTON, October 2003.  The Model Sons release their second EP entitled "The Story of My Love" on October 4th.  Prior to the show they appear live on WFNX and WAAF and are also featured in Boston's The Noise and Weekly Dig magazines.  The show is a huge success.  Songs from the new recording get added to compilations by Traktor7 and Tortuga Records that get international distribution.  Not content to sit around and play their hometown every month, the boys buy a van and begin booking shows throughout northeastern US to promote the new release.

Press

"Throbbing with ... brain-stem jarring influences like the Misfits, Fugazi, Quicksand, and Black Sabbath, it's a multiheaded hydra of barely controlled mayhem."  Jonathan Perry, Boston Globe

"Sensitive but drunk.  Heavy on the riffs, but smart enough to know better.  Nirvana, but not really.  Unida, but not Kyuss.  Rock?  Oh definitely.  No buts about it."  Sleazegrinder (voted Boston's #1 rock critic and editor of "Gigs from Hell: True Tales of Rock and Roll Gone Wrong")

"A modern take on the riffing of Sabbath and the angular, arpeggios of bands like Sparta and Fugazi."  Glenwood, Boston's The Noise

"The Model Sons are an example of something that should be on the radio (and might actually have a chance at it):  catchy stuff that isn't all power chords and pseudo-sensitive (or pseudo-tough) moaning."  Sarah Zachrich, Splendid E-Zine

"The Model Sons are rapidly approaching the level of "unfuckwithable" ... their confidence onstage is so palpable at this point that it could take human form and just slap you around if it felt like it."   Boston's The Noise
